Are you ready for this crock pot chicken wings recipe? It’s chicken wing season. With the Superbowl right around the corner, Ryan is ready to devour a plate (or two) of chicken wings. We aren’t die-hard, screaming at the TV football fans, but it’s hard to resist an opportunity to eat all of the appetizers and tailgating snacks we can eat. In the past we’ve bought pre-made freezer wings that cook up quickly, but that gets expensive. Especially if you have a house full of hungry boys watching a football game. Not to mention, the pre-made chicken wings can’t compare to homemade wings.
Ryan loves fried foods, and makes some amazing fried chicken wings. On the other hand, I am usually too swamped with kids to spend a lot of time frying anything. I don’t know why my kids gather around when I am cooking, but leave my husband to cook in peace. Most the time I don’t mind. 🙂 Anyway, I challenged Ryan to make chicken wings that I could re-create easily, even with kids begging to be the “mixer”. He delivered. In fact, we might like these wings better than fried chicken wings.
Of course, I love anything I can drop in a crock pot. These wings are seriously the easiest thing you’ll cook for your tailgating party. It all starts with an awesome dry rub. Let’s get started!
Crock pot chicken wings
Once you mix your dry ingredients into a bowl, just coat the wings wing thoroughly with the dry rub. You can even do this right in the crock pot.
Cook the wings in your crock pot on low for 3-4 hours, or on high for 2-2 1/2 hours. Once the wings are finished cooking, add one cup of barbecue sauce. This barbecue sauce is our favorite.
Now, I have to admit, we like our chicken wings saucy. So make sure you have plenty of extra barbecue sauce on hand. And napkins. Plenty of napkins.
